Rarely does a Presidential nomination race extend to the March 4 Texas Primary. With Hillary Clinton and Baraka Obama running in a virtual dead heat, Texas voters may have a say in who gets the Democratic nomination.

To support an exchange of ideas, Indo-Americans would like news for readers to give us their thoughts and opinions. Our topic this time is Clinton vs. Obama. Let us know whom you prefer and why?

    Why I Support Barack Obama

Barack Obama has shown an unprecedented ability to motivate and mobilize our nation into political participation and even activism. Democracy needs this participation in order to function as envisioned by our founding fathers.
In order to take back our government from the privileged insiders, millions will need to be mobilized and motivated to participate in the functioning of our government.

Barack Obama, in his address at the Toyota Center in Houston talked about the hard work ahead. Not just after the victory in Wisconsin, but even after the nomination is won, even after the presidency is achieved. He talked about putting together a two thirds bipartisan coalition which will be required to pass anything in the Senate.

Barack Obama has proven his ability to mobilize millions into action and participation. When he calls on the Nation to call their representatives to pass his agenda, millions will rise to the challenge and flood their representatives with personal messages, forcing their hands to act in the Nation’s interest.

Barack Obama has talked about cost reductions before making the promise of Universal healthcare, showing fiscal responsibility. He has talked about having open dialog on issues before making policy decisions. This is far better than fixed policy agenda’s which have little chance of passing through the congress.

The fundamental axiom of democracy is that People are Smarter than any Individual. This makes the ability to motivate and mobilize the people fundamental to the success of any democracy.

This is why I support Barack Obama!

Even the Opponents Admire Barack Obama!

Bill Bennett (no bleeding heart liberal) said after hearing Senator Obama’s speech after the South Carolina victory that it gave him goose bumps and reminded him of Ronald Reagan. The respect of your ideological opponents is essential to the success of any coalition and compromise.

Hillary Clinton in her closing remarks in the Austin debate showed the same respect and admiration even at a moment of impending defeat. Many Obama supporters are young and personally inspired by him. They are likely to be disheartened and disappointed if he loses the nomination. They may drop out of politics for a long time to come. Hillary Clinton’s support is based on issues and needs which are addressed in large measure by Barack Obama. Her supporters can and will support Barack Obama in the national election. This is shown in the head to head polls with John McCain.

There will not be another moment in history like this. In four years, the powers to be will figure out how to play the internet and text message games. Right now they are awestruck by what is happening. Even the polls consistently underestimate Barack Obama’s support because most of his support comes from new participants in the political process. This is confirmed by the record turnouts in primary elections so far.

“We the People” must not let this moment get away!

I am more of a Hillary Clinton fan now, wanted to vote for Obama but once he said that he is going to go into Pakistan with force, i think he showed himself no better than any other president who does not respect the sovereignty of other nations, so definitely Hillary Clinton now.
